Brenda Sepulveda-Perez
Class of 2017
I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 3 months pregnant in 2015. I was a full-time student at Cerro Coso and I was a tutor, as well as working at Access Programs. I started cancer treatment but my doctor recommended I stay home on bed rest due to pregnancy risks, and so I basically stayed in bed for months. Later, when my son Breydann was born and I had enough strength to get off of bed rest, I decided to go back to college. I used to take my son with me Monday through Friday to the college, and spent most of the day working on assignments in the library due to lack of internet at home. Basically, my son spent the first months of his life at Cerro Coso. All the while, I continued with my cancer treatments.
The staff at Cerro Coso was so wonderful and accommodating as I juggled caring for an infant and completing my degree. In 2017, I finally graduated with my Associate Degree in Business Administration. I assisted Access Programs’ graduation event as well as the whole-of-campus graduation for the college. Cerro Coso was a wonderful experience and I never gave up on my dream of obtaining my college degree. This year I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Leadership & Management from Bellevue University. My strength is in never giving up on my dreams, no matter what life throws my way. I am a survivor and I always will be.
Thank you Cerro Coso for helping me achieve my dreams!
