Advocate for Healthier Living

Leslie Weber

Class of 2020

Meet Leslie Weber, a 2020 graduate of Cerro Coso Community College. Leslie received her Associate in Science Degree in Human Services, and is now continuing her education at Humboldt State University in Northern California. Her goal is to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and then begin working towards a Master’s Degree in the same field.

Leslie was especially inspired by classes she took with Professor Melissa Bowen, Associate Professor of Psychology and Human Services at Cerro Coso's Tehachapi campus. She offered praise for all the staff at the College, noting their commitment to student success and passion for teaching.

On choosing to pursue a career as a social worker, Leslie says, “I want to be a social worker because I want to advocate for my clients and help them live a healthier life…[and] to help end the negative stigma of receiving help from mental health agencies.”

She firmly believes Cerro Coso Community College was the right choice to start her educational journey, marveling at how she found her life’s purpose in Professor Bowen’s powerful lectures. “One day it all made sense. I knew what I was supposed to be doing. I am here to help others.”
