What can I do with this?
The Corrections Officer Certificate of Achievement
- Designed to develop skills for state-certified peace officer appointments.
- Prepares students with a general understanding of entry-level detention and correctional job requirements.
- Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) PC 832 Arrest and PC 832 Firearms certifications are also included.
You can use this to qualify under the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) and Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) Adult Corrections Officer (CORE) certification for employment in:
- state prisons
- county jails
- or detention facilities
What will I learn?
- To articulate the broad requirements of balancing law enforcement with individual liberties.
- To employ proper firearms safety techniques and care for issued firearm established by the Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements.
- To perform and successfully implement appropriate skills for arrest control techniques and firearms safety set forth by the State Training for Corrections requirements
- To demonstrate skills and knowledge of all required learning domains in search, seizure, civil liberties and others required under state certification commissions.

Note: Some courses within the major have a required prerequisite. If you feel you have equivalent knowledge and skills to those included in the prerequisite course through professional experience, licensure, or certification, you have the opportunity to submit a Prerequisite Challenge to be reviewed by the Department Chair.
