Prospective online students should have realistic expectations.
CC Online courses are highly interactive in an online environment. Through a web browser, faculty and students can discuss lectures, assignments, projects, and papers. The course content usually includes online lectures, videos, discussion boards, and exams. The following information about CC Online courses may be useful for you to decide if online learning is for you.
Online students...
- Must formally apply to Cerro Coso Community College
- Must know basic computer skills
- Must have access to a computer and Internet
- Must feel comfortable interacting with others in a virtual environment
- Must have good written communication skills in order to communicate with instructor and other students in emails and online discussions
- Must take an active role in the course to be successful
The qualities of a successful online student include being self-reliant and self-motivated, having good self-discipline, having good basic computer skills, and being able to follow written instructions.
Course Schedules
- Online students will have access to course materials at all times for the duration of the term. Students have the option of completing course assignments at the most convenient time for themselves within the allotted time.
- Online students will be able to interact with their instructor during the course period. Instructors will also have virtual office hours to assist students with questions and assignments.
- CC Online offers online courses in fall, spring, and summer terms. The courses begin in August, January, June for 10-week courses, and vary in start date for short-term courses. Students can apply to an online program at any time throughout the year. Visit the CC Online Class Offerings to view current and upcoming courses.
Student Services
Student services provided to traditional college students at Cerro Coso Community College are available to online students. Please contact student services staff to answer questions and guide you through your experience as a student.

Online students who experience any difficulty logging on to a course, accessing course materials, or who have any other technical questions should contact technical support.

Becoming a Student
- Enroll in Cerro Coso Community College. Bakersfield and Porterville students may skip this step.
- While following the admissions steps, make sure to complete Orientation
- Meet virtually with a counselor to determine your placement in math and English, and to develop a Student Education Plan (SEP).
- Apply for Financial Aid to help with tuition and fees
- Check out the schedule of classes and register for a class
- Find your textbooks
- Attend class!
