Cerro Coso Community College Band Presents: “Fantasy” Spring Concert

Get ready to be swept away into worlds of wonder, whimsy, and epic adventure!
Cerro Coso Community College proudly invites the community to the Spring Concert on May 1st, presented by the Cerro Coso Community Band, themed “Fantasy”—a musical journey through some of the most beloved fantastical realms.
From witches and pirates to gods and galaxies, this year’s concert will feature fun and powerful selections, including:
- Alice in Wonderland – Danny Elfman
- Wicked – Stephen Schwartz
- Pirates of the Caribbean – Arranged by Michael Brown
- The Wizard of Oz – Harold Arlen
- Fate of the Gods – Steven Reineke
- Out of This World – John Williams
- Mikado March – John Philip Sousa
We're especially thrilled to welcome Simon Austin as a guest conductor for the evening. He'll be leading the band through selections from Wicked, bringing his own flair and insight into this Broadway favorite.
Whether you're a lifelong music lover or simply seeking an enchanting night out, this fantasy-themed performance promises something for everyone.
The Cerro Coso Concert Band is not just a performing group, it’s a class open to all levels of experience and backgrounds. Offered as either a for-credit course or also offered as a non-credit class, this inclusive program welcomes musicians of all ages. Most members are adult musicians who already hold college degrees and play simply for the love of it. We’re also proud to include Cerro Coso students, Burroughs High School students, and even advanced junior high GATE students.
Musicians in the group bring a wide range of experiences—from former college music program participants to those who have performed professionally. To enroll, students must have at least two years of prior concert band experience, but no audition is required.
If you or someone you know plays a concert band instrument and is interested in joining the group, please contact Debbie Veit at dveit@cerrocoso.edu or our main campus at (760) 384-6100. We’d love to learn more about your background and help you get involved once fall enrollment opens.
This performance also marks a special milestone—it will be the final concert conducted by longtime band director Debbie Veit. After years of dedicated service and leadership, Debbie is stepping back to enjoy a more flexible schedule.
"This group has been such an important part of my life," she shared. "I’ll miss the amazing musicians who bring their passion and talent to every rehearsal and performance."
Mark your calendar and join us for an evening filled with music, magic, and heartfelt community spirit. See you there!
