Starry-Eyed from Our Guest Speaker Event with World-Famous Astronaut
His insights and stories sparked inspiration in many, including six-year-old Lukasz Ignatowski. Lukasz attended the event with his older brother, Antoni (8 years old), and their mother, Aida. Aida shared that both boys have always been fascinated by space and dream of becoming astronauts when they grow up.
“I saw on Facebook that Cerro Coso would be hosting Astronaut Michael López-Alegría, and I let Lukasz know. He was over the moon and so excited! When we got home from school on Friday, Lukasz immediately pulled out his astronaut t-shirt and asked if he could wear his suit, too! We were so thrilled to attend this amazing event!”
Lukasz even had the chance to pose with Michael López-Alegría as he was walking to receive a raffle prize, creating a truly special moment for everyone.
This event didn’t just inspire Lukasz and his family. Over 250 students from local middle and high schools attended the morning session, asking Michael questions, and gaining unique insights into the life of an astronaut. The afternoon session welcomed over 200 community members, who also interacted with Michael, making it an enriching and inspiring experience for all.
“A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible, especially the Career and Technical Education Department for playing a key role in bringing this to life. We are incredibly grateful for the community's enthusiasm and support for this life-changing event. Events like these are truly unforgettable and fuel the inspiration of future generations,” said Sean Hancock, President of Cerro Coso Community College.
