The Kern County Community College District (KCCD) Board of Trustees held a meeting at the Cerro Coso Community College campus in Ridgecrest, where they unanimously approved the proposal to name the training room in the new Sports Complex after Laurel "Lo" Stender.

Several individuals, including faculty, coaches, and students, spoke to the board, sharing heartfelt stories of the profound impact Lo had on their lives. Lo joined the Cerro Coso community in 2016, quickly becoming a beloved figure, especially in the athletics department, where she served as the athletic trainer.

Known for her adventurous spirit and deep connection to the Ridgecrest community, Lo encouraged athletes and colleagues alike to reach their fullest potential. A phenomenal athlete herself, she brought her personal experience to her role, helping athletes stay strong and strive for excellence. Her kindness, passion, and unwavering support endeared her to everyone who crossed her path.

Lo played a vital role in the development of the new state-of-the-art Sports Complex, particularly in the design and layout of the modernized training room. For years, she served the Coyote sports programs from a single training room in the gymnasium, but her vision and contributions to the new facility will support and inspire future athletes for generations to come.

The decision to honor Lo by naming the training room after her is a lasting tribute to her legacy, ensuring that her dedication and spirit will continue to influence the Cerro Coso community.

A formal ceremony will take place upon the completion of the new outdoor Athletics Complex to commemorate the dedication of the training room in honor of Laurel "Lo" Stender.
