CC Rocks Welcomes Back Students
On August 22nd, Cerro Coso IWV hosted its annual “CC Rocks” welcome back event, the official fall kick-off for students, families, and friends. This signature event provided an opportunity for everyone to connect and discover the wide array of resources, programs, and activities available to them.
The day was filled with guided tours, student and family orientations, and a warm welcome from Dr. Sean Hancock. Uriah Martinez, Miss Bishop Paiute Tribe 2024, was in attendance on behalf of the Cerro Coso Native American Student Success and Support Program. She represented the Nuumu-Paiute People of the Owen’s Valley, whose traditional name is Paya-hu-una-du. Uriah performed a beautiful ribbon dance that moved all in attendance.
A highlight of the event was the spotlight on the new AI “Coyotebot,” which garnered a lot of excitement.
Over two hundred students were in attendance, along with their families, friends, and supporters. The atmosphere was electric, with food, games, and music adding to the energy of the day.
