In compliance with the notification by the California Department of Public Health, the college has been and will be evaluating all “non-essential” events for postponement or cancellation through the month of March. The intent is to slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19 by limiting public gatherings, as directed by the California Community College Chancellor's Office and by Governor Newsom. Although events are still being evaluated, the following events on campus will be postponed: the Spring Fling, Coyote Chat, CTEC Hands-On Workshop, and the Core Ensemble Concert. We recognize that this is a disappointing step, but one meant to contribute to the health and safety of our students, staff and the communities. We look forward to being able to resume these important events and activities!
The college has been closely monitoring this serious global public health crisis and is taking precautions, evaluating thresholds, developing contingencies, and staying vigilant to minimize any future disruptions to instruction and student services at all campuses.
The college is following CDC guidelines to ensure the safety of our students, staff, and public:
- Disinfectant wipes and hand sanitizer are available in all classrooms and departments. Please use caution and wipe down surfaces like door handles and desktops regularly.
- Custodial services have increased the rate of cleaning frequently touched surfaces.
- M & O is trying to secure free standing hand sanitizer stations that will be placed throughout our facilities.
We are fortunate to have this time to be proactive in planning and preparing in the event further action is needed.
It is important to stress that the health risk of the COVID-19 virus remains low at this time. There continue to be no confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Kern, Inyo, or Mono counties. Please if you have any questions or concerns, contact your direct supervisor or Human Resources.
