The Indian Wells Valley campus, located in Ridgecrest, CA, 160 miles northeast of Los Angeles, is situated on a dramatic site overlooking the Sierra Nevada, Coso, Panamint, and Argus mountain ranges. At an elevation of 2,800 feet, the campus aesthetically emphasizes the rugged beauty of one of America's most famous deserts, the upper Mojave Desert. The Ridgecrest/IWV campus features an Astronomical Observatory and a Solar Photovoltaic Field, two features that make the campus, and the college, unique amongst California Community Colleges.

From the Ridgecrest/IWV campus, the college serves the communities of Ridgecrest, China Lake, Inyokern, and Trona. This area is more commonly referred to as the Indian Wells Valley. The Indian Wells Valley is the second largest population base in Kern County. Population and distance (over one and a half hours from the next largest town) dictated the need for educational opportunities at the local level as early as the mid-'60s.

Parking permits are required at the Ridgecrest/IWV campus.
