This Cerro Coso’s Men’s Basketball season is one for the history books.

After a brilliant regular season the team earned a spot in the 3C2A Men’s Basketball Tournament. A dominant first-round tournament win was followed by two more close wins. Suddenly, the team found themselves in uncharted territory – earning one of eight spots in the State Finals for the first time in team history.

“This is what we had been fighting for all season” said Head Coach Chris Dugan. “We knew what we were capable of, and it was an incredible feeling to live up to those expectations.”

The quarterfinal round on March 15 was a very tough matchup for our Coyotes. West Valley College came into the game undefeated and was the clear tournament favorite. Cerro Coso lost, 79-64, bringing their season to a close. West Valley went on to win the tourney, so it took the best of the best to finally beat Cerro Coso.

The loss didn’t come with too much disappointment, though.

“I am extremely proud of this group and what they have accomplished. This run was not only for us but the college, community and all the players that helped us build this program. We’re cemented in history as the best team in Coso history. This is special group that I will miss!” said Dugan.

Cerro Coso is also grateful for the support from our community. Our games this season, especially our thrilling 69-67 Southern Regional Final victory against San Bernardino, were absolutely packed.

“It was an electrifying season. Seeing our stands packed with cheering fans game after game was amazing” said Cerro Coso President Dr. Sean Hancock. “I am so proud of our team’s success and am looking forward to next season!”

Cerro Coso finished the season with a record of 25-7 and a top-8 in the state finish. It’s a season to be proud of, and one we hope to build on next season. Go Coyotes!
