    This is an intermediate course designed for the continuation of basic softball skills. Emphasis is placed on the development of defensive tactics by position and special situations like double plays, backing up, pick-off and relay throws. Students participate in practice drills as well as game setting situations.

  22. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to

    1. Acquire an appreciation of softball at a competitive level as a spectator and/or participant.
    2. Refine basic individualized skills learned in beginning softball and to introduce more advanced technical skills.
    3. Develop and apply the strategies and tactics applicable to a game situation.
    4. Analyze and understand the mechanical basis of efficient skill execution.
    5. Demonstrate an understanding of basic offensive and defensive techniques applicable to a game situation.
    6. Encourage the probing technique necessary to analyze the strength and weaknesses of others.

    e.        Defensive skills by position: pitching, catching, infield, outfield

    C.                  Batting- power, punch hitting, move-up runner

    1.       Bunting- drag, suicide

    2.       Fielding- how to play positions according to a particular situation- i.e., bunting double play cut off plays, hot-box, etc…

    D.                  Team offensive strategies and tactics(A-F)

    1.       Pitcher- how to throw a variety of pitches, i.e., curve ball, knuckle ball, drop, riser.

    2.       Different bunting situations- man on first, no outs, man at third-one out, hit and run, run at hit, bunt and run, stealing bases.

    3.       When to tag up on sacrifice fly.
