STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to

- Regulations and policies governing the operation of public and private early care and education
- The role and responsibilities of the director as administrator of an early care and education program
- Types of programs: proprietary programs, publicly funded programs, governing structures
- Ethical responsibilities of early childhood professionals
- Theories related to management
- Budget development fiscal management and funding sources in an early care and education program
- Developing and working with early care and education board
- Program philosophy and integration throughout all aspects of program design
- Organizational structure of an early care and education program
- Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring
- Program assessment as a cyclical process and inclusion of staff and families in the process
- Stages of professional development and the Director’s role in coaching, mentoring, and managing
- Aspects of designing a developmentally appropriate, early care and education facility
- Meeting the needs of children, staff and parents through facility design
- Incorporating licensing guidelines and requirements when designing a new space
